Situated in the tranquil village of M.K. Hubli, about 30 km from Belagavi, the Shri Sri Ranganatha Shree Ashwath Lakshmi Narasimha Temple rests peacefully on the sacred banks of the Malaprabha River. This temple is not just a place of worship but an oasis of divine calm, enveloped in nature's serenity. The grand open premises, ancient trees, and the soothing river breeze make it a spiritually uplifting retreat for devotees of all ages. Adjacent to the main shrine lies the Shri Chavaneshwara Temple, enriching the sacred ambiance.
This divine abode is blessed with spacious surroundings, making it an ideal visit for families, especially with children who find joy in its open courtyards. The calm and spiritual energy emanating from the temple grounds touches every heart that steps in.
The temple is primarily dedicated to Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and is regarded as a spiritually charged center of protection and transformation. The site is deeply revered due to its powerful legends and divine appearances, making it a place of miracles and blessings.
This is also a site where Shri Ashwath Lakshmi and Shri Ranganatha Swamy are worshipped, establishing it as a Vaishnava kshetra of great significance in North Karnataka.
Narasimha Jayanti, marking the divine appearance of Lord Narasimha, is the temple’s most celebrated festival and draws scores of devotees annually.
The spiritual history of this temple is intricately linked with a pious jeweller named Yadappa Naika, who lived during the 16th century. On his way from a pilgrimage to Lord Narasimha, he encountered dacoits near M.K. Hubli. Mysteriously, instead of attacking him, they fell at his feet. When questioned, they confessed they were influenced by divine power.
This event led to Naika renouncing his worldly life and becoming a Madhva saint, known as Yadavaraya (1560–1640). Later, Lord Narasimha appeared in his dream, instructing him to retrieve a sacred idol from the Malaprabha River. Yadavaraya obeyed, recovered the idol, and began worshipping it with sandal paste.
Around the same period, a sage named Chavan conducted a Mahayagna and drew the divine form of the Lord on a stone using sandal paste. After the yagna, the stone was respectfully returned to the riverbed. A Vijayanagara king, during his time, discovered both a Shiva Linga and Narasimha idol, further sanctifying the site. This multi-layered history makes the temple a treasure of faith, vision, and divine revelations.
