On the serene banks of the Hiranyakeshi River, in the tranquil village of Badakundri near Hukkeri, stands the ancient and revered Shree Holemma Devi Temple. Surrounded by lush greenery, the temple’s tall gopuram welcomes devotees into a sacred space filled with devotion, tradition, and the gentle sound of flowing waters. The spacious temple courtyard often comes alive during festivals, yet on regular days, it offers a peaceful setting for prayer and reflection.
Daily poojas are offered from early morning until late evening, with special significance on Tuesdays and Fridays, considered the Goddess’s days.
Every Amavasya (new moon day) draws large gatherings for darshan, annaprasada, and collective prayer.
The grand Jathra Mahotsav takes place between January and February, starting from Bharath Hunnime, and continues for about a month with vibrant rituals, cultural performances, and processions.

Shree Holemma Devi, worshipped as a powerful form of Goddess Lakshmi, is the Kuldevi (family deity) for many families across Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Andhra Pradesh. She is especially revered by farmers, who seek her blessings for cattle, harvest, and prosperity. Local belief holds that those suffering from certain skin ailments find relief here by applying a mixture of salt and flour to the skin and washing in the holy river. Countless devotees testify to wishes being fulfilled after sincere prayers to the Mother Goddess.

In the monsoon, the river swells so much that the temple is sometimes surrounded by water—a sight both awe-inspiring and symbolic of nature’s bond with divinity.
