Nestled on the serene banks near the Tungabhadra River, the Sri Huligemma Devi Temple in Huligi is a revered Shakti Peetha that draws thousands of devotees throughout the year. The temple radiates powerful spiritual vibrations and is surrounded by other Shiva-Shakti temples, creating a sacred environment for seekers of divine grace and inner peace.
Here, the Goddess is worshipped as Devi Huligemma, an incarnation of Adi Shakti, and is believed to fulfill the prayers of devotees who seek protection, prosperity, and spiritual awakening.
Devotees visiting Sri Huligemma Devi Temple often speak of inner transformation, relief from life’s burdens, and a deep spiritual connection. With origins rooted in divine vision and an energy that uplifts every soul, Huligi stands as a sacred testimony of Devi’s eternal presence on Earth.
Sri Huligemma Devi is considered the Kshetra Devata (presiding deity) of Huligi and surrounding regions. Her blessings are invoked for health, courage, and relief from hardships. The temple is known for powerful rituals, healing energies, and the fulfillment of heartfelt wishes. The annual Jatre (fair) is a major celebration, deeply rooted in local customs and traditions, where lakhs of devotees gather for darshan and seva.
It is believed that worshipping the Goddess here brings peace, removes past karmas, and ensures spiritual protection in times of distress
The temple traces its origin to the 12th century, as per oral traditions. Two devout ascetics, Nagajogi and Basavajogi, disciples of Sri Somanath Bhatt (priest of the nearby Someshwar Temple), were ardent devotees of Devi Yellamma of Soudatti. During one stormy full moon night, unable to travel, they rested soaked in the rain. That night, the Devi appeared in their dream, guiding them to her presence in Huligi itself — in the form of a Sri Chakra and Saligrama, hidden west of the Shiva temple.
Following the divine vision, Sri Somanath Bhatt and the devotees discovered the sacred relics and established a shrine at the revealed location. This marked the birth of Sri Huligemma Devi Temple, where the divine mother now resides and blesses generations of devotees.
The temple’s rituals and legends continue through centuries, and the famous annual festival, known as Joganpongkam, is celebrated with grandeur—offering rice prepared in sacred waters and worship led by the temple's original seers.
