This sacred Matha is more than a place of worship—it is the soul of Hubballi for the Lingayat and Veerashaiva communities. Rooted in the legacy of Shri Gurusiddeshwar Swamy, the Matha honors the spiritual traditions established during the Kalyana Revolution by Basaveshwara and Channabasavanna. The name "Moorusavira" (meaning “three thousand”) reflects a spiritual heritage that blossomed when 3,000 Shivasharanas were entrusted to amplify the teachings of universal upliftment. Over centuries, this Matha has remained steadfast in service—offering free education, hostel facilities, and midday prasadam to all devotees, regardless of background. It remains both a spiritual haven and a nurturing institution, a living testament to devotion in action.

Established in the 12th century, this divine sanctuary is woven into Hubballi’s spiritual and social fabric. Legend holds that Channabasavanna, accompanied by three thousand Shivasharanas, paused here en route to pilgrimage, and seeing their dedication, installed Gurusiddeshwar Swamy at their helm—thus marking the birth of Moorusavira Matha. Through the ages, it has served as a center of devotion, education, and service.
