Sri Sharadamba Temple (ಶೃಂಗೇರಿ ಶಾರದಾಂಬೆ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ) is a renowned temple dedicated to Goddess Sharadamba, the divine embodiment of knowledge and wisdom. Situated in the serene town of Sringeri on the banks of the sacred Tunga River in Karnataka, this temple is not only a place of deep spiritual energy but also a beacon of learning, Advaita Vedanta, and Sanatana Dharma.
Founded by Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya, Sringeri is home to the Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham—the first among the four cardinal mathas established by the Acharya. The spiritual aura of the temple and the unbroken lineage of enlightened Acharyas continue to inspire seekers, scholars, and devotees from across the world.
Sringeri is not merely a temple town but a living Vedantic hub. The Acharyas of the Peetham have kept alive the teachings of Advaita Vedanta, producing profound commentaries on the Vedas, Upanishads, and Shankara Bhashyas.
The Vyakhyana Simhasana or Throne of Transcendental Wisdom is occupied by the presiding Acharya — revered as a moving form of Goddess Sharada herself.
The temple remains sanctified through centuries of worship by Jivanmukta Acharyas, including Sri Vidyaranya, Sri Chandrasekhara Bharati, and Sri Abhinava Vidyatirtha

Sringeri Sharada Peetham extends its service beyond the temple:
The temple is especially popular for the Aksharabhyasa / Vidyarambha Seva — where children are initiated into learning, with the divine blessings of Goddess Sharada.
The origins of Sri Sharadamba Temple trace back to Adi Shankara Bhagavatpada, who installed a sandalwood idol of Goddess Sharada on a Sri Chakra carved on a rock, marking the spiritual foundation of the Dakshinamnaya Peetham.
The temple features finely carved stone pillars, traditional granite architecture, and divine sculptures of Durga, Raja Rajeshwari, Dwarapalakas, and other deities — reflecting the mastery of South Indian Shilpa Shastras.
In 1999, during the Golden Jubilee of Jagadguru Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamigal, a magnificent Golden Chariot and Golden Doors inscribed with Ashta Lakshmi forms were installed, adding to the temple’s grandeur and spiritual vibrancy.
